The Serial Numbers of these guns run from 126,972 to 126,977. The combination of the front end of the FW Frame with the lock Plate and rear of the R Frame, and you have the rare and unusual "C" Frame Elsie. One Field Grade had 26" BBls and one had 28" BBls the 4 other guns all had BBLs 30" - 32" in length. In reality there were 6 C Frame double guns produced, all were 12 Gauge double guns, 4 were Field Grade guns and 2 were Specialty Grade double guns. Brophy believed the C may have identified the combination engineering, of the C Frame double gun. However the Elsie was also produced on the very rare (C) Frame. This is a wonderful shotgun, in beautiful condition! Judging by the condition, we see no reason to think otherwise. We bought this from the family of the original owner, and we were told that less than 100 rounds have been run through this gun in the last 80 years. The BBLS appear to be CYL and IMP CYL choked, but we’re not positive. Overall this is a beautiful field grade 12 gauge L.C.

Wood has only very light handling marks, and there is a 1/4 inch to 1/2 inch shallow crack at the left sideplate. The buttplate is in excellent condition, and is the original one for this gun.

Overall bluing on this gun is easily 92-95% strong original blue. There are a few small areas of roughness on the BBL, and a bit of bluing loss at the muzzle from shooting. Bores are MIRROR BRIGHT, with little to no evidence of firing.

The wood has strong checkering, and the gun has tight lockup and excellent mechanical function. The frame retains vibrant and striking case colors, with only some fading on the underside of the frame where the gun would sit in the hand. This is a 12 gauge field grade featherweight model, as denoted by the FW prefix of the serial number. Smith side by side shotgun, made in 1935.
